The Fairmont Dollars for Scholars Chapter was established in 1974. Lester Baumann, then Superintendent of the Fairmont Schools along with other community people was instrumental in establishing the chapter. The headquarters for the parent organization, Citizen Scholarship Foundation of America (CSFA), was in Massachusetts. In the late 1970s, CSFA moved all operations to St. Peter, MN, which today is still the home base for the newly named organization, Scholarship America. The Fairmont’s Dollars for Scholars Chapter is one of the largest chapters in Minnesota. There are 130 chapters in Minnesota and over 1200 chapters in the US.
